New discovery: Sashiko

I am slow in discovering sashiko embroidery (link is to purlbee.com tutorial).  The repetition in most of these patterns this seems easy, mindless, yet soothing.  I may incorporate that into my embroidery designs in the future.
Here’s an example by Flickr user Pictures by Ann.

Jason Fried on Startups

A video interview with Jason Fried that I thought was helpful for startup businesses (there is also a transcript at the link):

Four roses

These were blooming outside my house a few months ago. I love that three orange ones surrounded one big one. (Orange is also my favorite color.)

Craft fairs

One of my dreams in high school was to go to Bizarre Bazaar and the San Francisco Zine Fest.  And out of college and as this so-called “adult”, I still haven’t made it to any zine, craft, or DIY faire.  (Another faire I’d like to go to one day is the Maker Faire.)  What is wrong [...]

Kickstarter

Kickstarter is focused on creative ideas and ambitious endeavors. We’re a great way for artists, filmmakers, musicians, designers, writers, athletes, adventurers, illustrators, explorers, curators, promoters, performers, and others to bring their projects, events, and dreams to life.
This website is a really great idea.  I’m somewhat familiar with the idea of an online “pledge drive” for [...]

High-Low Tech: TearDrop

Related to LilyPad, except using paper rather than fabric.
TearDrop is a kit that allows people to explore the creative and practical potentials of paper-based computing.
The kit enables people to paint functional interactive devices on paper. These might include painted sensors and actuators, functioning user interface sketches, beautiful drawings that integrate functionality and aesthetics, and working [...]

Cross-Stitch Stylophone

This is amazing. Uses Lilypad to create a Stylophone in fabric. Here is a link to flickr user _syano’s flickr set for the Cross-Stitch Stylophone. via Craftzine.com.
